Digital technologies provide many opportunities to improve how health and care is delivered and enhance people’s experiences of services, but realising their potential requires investment, culture change and thoughtful implementation.

The King’s Fund Annual Digital health and care conference was held in person in July shortly after the General Election and took a deep dive into the practicalities of digital transformation and solutions.

Through a series of panel discussions, presentations and workshops, the conference provided a collaborative, thoughtful and solutions-focused environment in which to consider some of the biggest challenges facing digital health and care. Sessions explored how data insights and technology are being used to improve care, how to overcome barriers to interoperability and successful integration, and priorities for improving the adoption, scale and spread of innovative technology in health and care.

The conference provided an established forum for health and care professionals, innovators and the partners they work with to come together to solve problems and learn how to effectively adopt digital solutions that support both the health and care workforce and enhance services for people who draw on health and care services.

What did the event cover?

Peers, experts and leaders in the sector came together to explore a variety of issues including:

  • how the UK fits into the global landscape on digital care and national priorities for digital transformation

  • how digital technologies are transforming the delivery of care and the implications for those working in, and drawing on, services

  • priorities for supporting the workforce to meet the demands of the future

  • the potential of virtual wards and remote monitoring to move care closer to home

  • what an effective approach to population health management looks like – and what it means for tackling health inequalities

  • what it means to develop and nurture a culture that supports change and enables collaborative working and innovation

  • understanding controversy and realising the potential of innovation.
