AI use at The King's Fund
At The King’s Fund, we are committed to exploring the potential of generative artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance our mission of improving health and care in England. We recognise the huge impact generative AI tools can have on policy development, research and service delivery in health and care. Our aim is to harness AI responsibly and ethically to drive internal innovation, inform evidence-based policy decisions, and ultimately improve health outcomes for all.
We will be transparent about how we use generative AI and have a number of principles that guide how we use generative AI tools in our work. These principles align with our core values as an independent health and care charity.
The field of generative AI is developing rapidly and best practice in every area has not yet emerged. Therefore, this transparency statement will be reviewed and updated regularly.

Use of AI
We will only use generative AI technology when it is relevant, appropriate and proportionate, choosing the most suitable and sustainable option for our needs.
Human-controlled quality assurance
Any output that The King’s Fund produces that has been reformatted, summarised or augmented by a generative AI tool will always have trained and qualified staff to review these outputs and validate any decision-making that generative AI outputs have fed into.
Content owned by others
We will never knowingly use AI-generated outputs that are the intellectual property of others for which we have no licence or permission to use. We will continue to acknowledge and attribute ownership and sources through citation.
Ethical and compliant use
We will always address ethical concerns, including privacy and intrusion, before using any generative AI tool in the production of our outputs.
AI as an enabler
The King’s Fund will always view generative AI as an enabler that enhances or augments the skills, knowledge and creativity of our staff.
Transparency and outcomes
Our intention is to label future outputs when AI is involved, indicating the use of generative AI in their creation to make clear its role.
