Join us for this two-day virtual conference as policy and leadership experts from The King’s Fund unravel the complexities of England’s health and social system.
2026 is proving to be a pivotal year for the health and care sector - with the recent resignation of the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care on the same day of the publication of the NHS Modernisation Bill personifying the change the sector is going through. The NHS Modernisation Bill seeks to radically reshape how the NHS is nationally led and managed, and well as how services are commissioned and delivered - with changes including the abolishment of NHS England, the reconfiguration of integrated care boards, and the abolition of Healthwatch.
But what does this all mean for you?
And how does it link with plans for the delivery of the 10 Year Health Plan, the Model Neighbourhood Framework, AI procurement guidance, the ongoing Casey Commission on social care reform, and the planned revised 10-year workforce plan. The plans and targets are extremely ambitious, so how much can our health and care system realistically deliver, and will public satisfaction with the NHS continue to improve?
Day one will ground you in the fundamentals, covering the NHS Modernisation Bill, system structure and ICB, local government changes and social care reform. Day two takes an in-depth look at the three radical shifts the government are working to make a reality in the 10 Year Health Plan:
Hospital to community.
Sickness to prevention.
Analogue to digital.
There is also an opportunity to ask experts from The King’s Fund any questions you may have about the health and care sector and what any changes could mean for you in our popular Ask us anything session.
If you aren't around on 17-18 June, simply purchase a ticket and catch up on the eight sessions at a time that suits you.
What will we cover?
As a delegate you will:
explore how the policy landscape has evolved a year on from the launch of the 10 Year Health Plan
understand how local government reforms and devolution will impact health and care
learn about the realities of the huge challenges facing the social care system and what is being done to address these
understand how a shift from sickness to prevention might shape the future of the NHS
learn about what the shift from hospital to community and a ‘neighbourhood health service’ means in reality
explore what shifting the system from analogue to digital might entail and potential impacts on patients and staff
have an opportunity to engage with our expert panel in a dedicated Q&A session where they will answer any questions you may have about the health and care sector and what any changes could mean for you.
Who is the event for?
Health and care explained 2026 aims to enhance your understanding of England's health and care system and will explore key issues facing the health and care sector. It’s ideal for anyone seeking to understand more about what the changes that are being made at a national level could mean for those working across the sector, as well as professionals in the public, private and voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sectors who want to gain insight into the nuances of health care policy and system dynamics. Student and bursary tickets are also available, making it accessible to students, recent graduates and those just entering the field. We also welcome international participants to our virtual event.
