Supporting leaders to implement integrated care and population health

If you are part of a leadership team working across a health system to deliver integrated care or improve population health, we can help you by providing consultancy advice and support.

Our starting point is the recognition that delivering change is never easy, especially when it involves working across systems of care. Our approach is informed by our deep understanding of the health and care system, including our high-profile research into integrated care, population health and sustainability and transformation partnerships (STPs), as well as our organisational development (OD) expertise in the important relational and cultural aspects of managing change.

We are currently working with all the first and second wave integrated care systems (ICSs), and a range of STP and place-based leadership teams as they develop their approaches to providing integrated care and improving population health. Our experience and expertise includes:

  • supporting leaders to deliver culture change and address the strategic challenges of leading change across systems of care
  • building understanding and trust among wide groups of stakeholders and facilitating difficult conversations
  • supporting leaders to influence without formal authority 
  • facilitating strategic decision making in complex systems
  • group dynamics and conflict resolution
  • working through new local governance arrangements to support system working
  • applying national policy in a local context, sharing learning from the UK and abroad and understanding the external context you are working in
  • working collaboratively with patients and the public and actively engaging with the voluntary sector and communities.

Our approach is to work alongside you to help surface issues through conversations and observations of your team in action. We will work with you to design interventions to address the challenges you are facing and help deliver the change you want to see. We use a range of approaches including coaching, mentoring, facilitating small groups and running events for larger groups. In doing so, we draw on a range of expertise within The King’s Fund from both our Policy and OD teams.
