This 10-week experiential course is for leaders dedicated to creating a healthier society. Developed and co-delivered with London Interdisciplinary School, it’s grounded in collaboration, practical action and meaningful change. Blending in-person and virtual sessions, the course will help you apply new tools and insights to a real challenge from your current role. We will build your confidence to lead through complexity and drive solutions that make a difference.

Working in health means navigating the complex interface where science meets society. As a leader in this field, your ability to handle complexity will be constantly tested. However, we will guide and develop both your inner capacity and your understanding of the evolving landscape of health and care, so that you can build the mindset and practices needed to lead with clarity and drive systemic change.

What will I learn on the Leading Through Complexity course?

Through a blend of in-person and virtual sessions, you will work with a real-world example to delve into:

  • the evolving landscape of health and care leadership, moving towards interdisciplinary and systemic approaches to address complex health challenges

  • the concept of ‘leading beyond authority’ within the health and care sector, and the skills needed to work effectively across sector boundaries

  • techniques to develop your internal capacity to manage health and care complexity, providing you with tools and approaches that will continue to benefit your practice long after the course ends.

Is the Leading Through Complexity course for me?

This course is for current and aspiring leaders who want to gain new perspectives on how to lead change, with others and in complex environments, and develop the practical tools for doing so. Whether you come from a charity, the public sector, or a for-profit organisation, this course will enhance your leadership skills. The course is particularly valuable for those in roles such as head of department, deputy director or equivalent leadership positions.

What will I gain from this course?

  • An interdisciplinary approach to leadership, drawing on systems thinking, behavioural science, and practical tools to tackle real-world complexity in health and care.

  • Greater confidence to lead beyond your formal authority and work effectively across organisational, sectoral and cultural boundaries.

  • Practical skills for navigating complexity, including experimentation, collaboration, and decision-making in uncertain environments.

  • Insight into your own leadership mindset and behaviours, with inner development practices to help you lead with clarity and purpose.

  • Experience applying learning to a live challenge from your current role, ensuring direct relevance and lasting impact.

  • A supportive learning environment that blends in-person and virtual sessions, peer collaboration, and guidance from expert facilitators.
