NHS Future Forum: reports, recommendation and responses

Professor Steve Field and the NHS Future Forum have announced their recommendations for the Health and Social Care Bill, these include key recommendations to the government on the future for NHS modernisation. These recommendations have been published as themed reports.

As well as an emphasis on integration and co-ordination of services, the Future Forum suggested a move towards clinical commissioning and a slower pace to the changes. Below you can see more about the recommendations, our response and the government's plans for implementation.

Our response to the government's announcement on the Future Forum recommendations

While the government's response to the Future Forum report signals a promising approach to meeting the health challenges of the future, the promise to achieve an 18-week waiting time target could be harder to keep.

Professor Chris Ham gives his initial response to the recommendations set out by the NHS Future Forum, including the next steps for the government and what was missing from the report.

Key recommendation

A key recommendation from the Future Forum's summary report was that 'we need to move beyond arguing for integration... to making it happen'. We are working with the Nuffield Trust to support the development of the government's strategy on integrated health and social care.

Created by Nick Goodwin, The King's Fund, and Judith Smith, Nuffield Trust, this slidepack seeks to answer the following questions:

  • What do we mean by integrated care?

  • What problem does integrated care seek to address?

  • Examples of integrated care

  • Why is integrated care such a challenge?

  • What can be done to support integrated care?

  • What does this experience tell us about adopting and mainstreaming integrated care 'at scale'

  • How can success be defined and measured?
