Making decisions in difficult circumstances: Dr Sabrina Cohen-Hatton, Chief Fire Officer, West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service
We spoke to Dr Sabrina Cohen-Hatton, Chief Fire Officer for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, about how leaders can make decisions in difficult circumstances during the Covid-19 (coronavirus) crisis.
She spoke about the traps we can fall into when trying to make a decision in an uncertain and fast-changing environment and in particular, the risk of 'decision inertia', when you don't make a decision or defer a decision to another time or to another person.
She outlined simple techniques that can help you check your decision and ensure you've made the right one, as well as the importance of reflecting on the human impact of the decisions you make.
