A thriving and dynamic life sciences industry, working effectively in partnership with the health and care system and the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector, has the potential to bring significant gains for the future health and wealth of the nation.
The life sciences industry consists of all organisations that research, develop and/or manufacture pharmaceutical and med-tech products for health purposes, of which there are nearly 7,000 in the UK.
The UK has a strong track record as a leading centre for life sciences, and the advantages of effective collaboration between the health and care sector and the life sciences industry were clear to see during the rapid development and rollout of Covid-19 vaccines and treatments. Other examples of life science developments being utilised in health and care are already established – from IVF, to sophisticated diagnostic tests used to pinpoint diseases such as cancer more accurately. Many more will become available as technology continues to progress, so how can the health and care system and the VCSE sector build life sciences partnerships to access and uptake developments in a way that is both sustainable and supports the already overstretched health and care workforce?
Event topics
This conference will explore the challenges, opportunities and potential of working in partnership with private bodies in life sciences, as well as the benefits of implementation and adoption that are already being seen. The conference will look at:
examples where working with the life sciences industry has benefited integrated care systems (ICSs), and how barriers were overcome
the opportunities that developments in med-tech and diagnostics offer to benefit the health and care system and the VCSE sector
what it takes to build strong partnerships between the health and care system and industry
overcoming fear and building trust so that the health and care system and the VCSE sector can work effectively with life sciences for positive patient outcomes
what genomics, artificial intelligence (AI) and diagnostics developments mean for the health and care workforce
future-proofing health and care for future advancements in life sciences.
