Join Activate, a leadership development programme described by our 2024 cohort as thought-provoking, challenging and enlightening. A collaboration between brap and The King’s Fund, it’s designed for individuals in management or leadership roles within health and care.
We recognise that racism persists as a significant barrier to achieving equity in health and care. It shapes the experiences and opportunities of our colleagues from global majority backgrounds on a daily basis. It is time for change, and change is urgent. That is why we are focusing on developing anti-racist leadership in health and care.
Through Activate, you will embark on a journey of discovery through workshops and learning sets led by a team of facilitators with varied expertise and experience from brap and The King’s Fund.
Activated
)

Self-aware
Committed to fighting racism wherever we find it, including in ourselves.
Embodied
Focused on embodied ways of knowing and being as opposed to overly analytical and cognitive problem-solving.
Accountable
Modelling accountability for racism, these programme principles and our learning.
Collective
Coalition building for collective anti-racist leadership that is a win-win situation for all marginalised groups.
What will I learn on the Activate programme?
During the Activate programme you'll work with facilitators from The King’s Fund and brap to:
understand race, racism and racialised thinking
raise awareness of the role of whiteness in upholding racial hierarchies
navigate the tensions inherent in racial justice work
recognise how the status quo reproduces itself
understand the impacts of racism in health and care.
Our anti-racism leadership development programme is supported by a handbook that presents the key, foundational ideas and concepts at the heart of the programme with journalling prompts and recommendations for further reading and watching.
Is the Activate programme for me?
This programme is designed for anyone working in health and care, whether you're a new or established leader looking to deepen your practice or adopt an anti-racist approach to leadership. It is also highly relevant for individuals from a variety of sectors, including trade unions, local authorities, and voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations involved in health and care. The programme offers support to help you reflect on and address the unique needs of your patients, residents, members or workforce, enabling you to implement inclusive and anti-racist practices in your work.
