The King's Fund responds to the publication of Baroness Amos’s Independent Maternity and Neonatal Investigation

Responding to the publication of Baroness Amos’s Independent Maternity and Neonatal Investigation, The King's Fund Director of Policy, Events & Partnerships, Siva Anandaciva, said:

‘The review lays bare the distressing reality that far too many women, babies and families are being failed by a system that is meant to care for them at one of the most important moments of their lives.

‘The testimonies heard by Baroness Amos of women not being listened to, of their concerns not being taken seriously enough, and of inconsistent care and avoidable harm are deeply shocking. But sadly, they are also not new and so we must break this cycle of review without implementation, to deliver the care that these women, babies and families deserve.

‘Translating these findings and recommendations into meaningful, lasting change will require a sustained focus on improving the quality, safety and experience of care in every part of our health service. The government and NHS should urgently engage with all the recommendations in this review and demonstrate it is serious about delivering lasting improvements to the care women and families receive.’
