Housing and health:
opportunities for sustainability and transformation partnerships
This short report, supported by the National Housing Federation, sets out areas where sustainability and transformation partnerships and emerging integrated care systems can make more of the contribution of the housing sector to improving health.

Part of this is because poor housing leads to poor health. Another part is that the cost of housing is now a major economic problem in the UK. As it becomes more expensive (because of a failure to build enough houses) the amount of many peoples' incomes left to spend on other things declines leaving them with fewer options for healthy lifestyles. Expensive housing may, ultimately, cause other big problems like poor diet and low levels of physical activity.
It may be that a failure to keep housing costs low is the primary root cause of health inequality.
In terms of housing especially in relation to older people and others accessing hospital treatment - we've known for a long time that a little investment in enabling people to return home and maintain independent living can generate much in the way of savings downstream.
