Jonathan Fielden

Medical Director (Medicine) at University College London Hospital

Jonathan was appointed Medical Director (Medicine) at University College London Hospital (UCLH) in July 2012. He is one of four medical directors at the trust, which is known for its strong clinical leadership, excellent outcomes and strong research. He is also an intensive care physician.

Prior to joining UCLH Jonathan was Chief Medical Officer at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.

Jonathan was Deputy Chairman (2004–6) and then Chairman (2006–9) of the Central Consultants and Specialists Committee of the British Medical Association. He has worked on numerous national bodies, with the Department of Health, advisory bodies to ministers, Secretary of State for Health and Special policy advisors to No 10. He sits on the Advisory Committee on Clinical Excellence Awards and was a member of the NHS Future Forum. He is Secondary Care Specialist on Aylesbury Vale Clinical Commissioning Group governing body; has acted as chair for Care Quality Commission inspections; and in 2014 he was appointed as a board trustee for the Nuffield Trust. He is a board director for Health Services Laboratories.

He will shortly take up the role of Director of Specialist Commissioning and Deputy National Medical Director at NHS England.
