Former Programme Director

Sarah Waller has now left The King's Fund.

Sarah Waller is the programme director for The King's Fund's Enhancing the Healing Environment (EHE) programme. A former director of standards at the United Kingdom Central Council for Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors she has extensive management experience within the NHS as both a director of nursing and HR director. She was assistant director of nursing for the North Thames Region and also worked at the NHS Executive, Department of Health, as head of management development and training for the NHS.

She joined The King's Fund in 2000 to lead and develop the EHE programme, which has enabled more than 130 NHS organisations to transform the environments in which they deliver care to patients.

Sarah was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 2004 and, with Hedley Finn, was jointly awarded the Outstanding Contribution to the Healthcare Environment Award at the Building Better Healthcare Awards in November 2004.

As well as leading the EHE programme she is a non-executive director and Vice Chairman of the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust and London project manager for the Board Leadership Programme for Chairs and Non Executive Directors, which is run by The King's Fund. She was appointed CBE for services to Nursing and the NHS in the 2008 New Year honours list.
