Shaping the future of general practice: a report for the Royal College of General Practitioners

This content relates to the following topics:

The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) commissioned this report to inform its debate about the future role and working practices of general practitioners (GPs).

In the report we build on previous work by The King’s Fund, which looked at innovative models of general practice. We used a mainly qualitative approach for this report, with methods including a literature search; analysis of GP and patient opinion surveys and interviews and focus groups with GPs, members of the wider practice team and system leaders in all four countries during the summer of 2018.

The report examines trends in health policy in the four nations of the UK, particularly as it might affect general practice. It considers what patients and GPs want from general practice and what general practice might look like in the future, building on the literature review and our interviews with system leaders.
