The role of local authorities in health issues

We set out our thoughts on the Communities and Local Government Committee inquiry on the role of local authorities in health issues.

The Health and Social Care Act 2012 fundamentally alters the relationship between local government and the NHS. Responsibility for many public health and health improvement functions will be transferred from the NHS to local government, giving local authorities new responsibilities.

We are fundamentally optimistic about these changes, and have followed the development of health and wellbeing boards and the transfer of public health functions with interest.
