Although surveys show us that people are proud of the NHS and most are satisfied with the services they receive, it’s sometimes said that public expectations of the NHS are rising. Against this background we have been undertaking work to explore the relationship between the public and our national health service. Completed project The impact of NHS financial pressures on patient care This project explores whether the unprecedented slowdown in NHS funding growth since 2010 has affected patients' access to high-quality care, and whether financial pressures are felt differently in different parts of the health system. Active project Public satisfaction with the NHS The annual British Social Attitudes (BSA) survey asks members of the public about their views on, and feelings towards, the NHS and health and care issues generally. Completed project Measuring the performance of local health systems In June 2015, The King's Fund was commissioned by the Department of Health to review how the performance of local health systems could be assessed. Completed project Older people’s experiences of district nursing services This project was done to improve our understanding of quality in district nursing services by learning from the experiences of older people receiving care, their informal carers and district nursing staff. Completed project The Francis Inquiry report Robert Francis' report into the failings at the Mid Staffordshire Foundation Trust was published in February 2013. Since then, issues of patient safety, quality of care and a culture of collective leadership have been in the public eye more than ever.
