Our work on the legislative agenda for health and care reform

Why we’re doing this project

The government published the Health and Care Bill in July 2021. The Bill introduces new legislative measures that aim to make it easier for health and care organisations to deliver joined-up care for people who rely on multiple different services, building on earlier recommendations by NHS England and NHS Improvement. It also contains changes to the Secretary of State’s powers over the system, as well as targeted changes to public health, social care, and quality and safety matters.

The King’s Fund has spent many years making the case for integrated care and will be working to inform the new legislation, in the hope of bringing about improvements to health and care services. We are also paying close attention to those proposals relating to our other areas of interest, including social care, workforce and public health.
