Date started: 1 Jun 2001
Organisation: acute
Service: adult acute
Project: gardens, public spaces

The main entrance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and a corridor connecting two of the hospital buildings.

This is now part of Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.

Aims and outcomes

The project team wanted to personalise the new private finance initiative hospital, reflect a holistic approach to care and demonstrate the hospital's respect for patients.

As water is a recognised therapeutic intervention, an existing fountain was replaced with a landmark water sculpture, to provide a focus at the entrance to the hospital. Brightly-coloured panels were created, with the designs featuring the signature of every member of staff. These panels were hung along a long corridor connecting two buildings into an interesting and fun space.
