Dermatology ward at St Thomas' hospital.
Aims and outcomes
A textile artist was commissioned to work with patients in the dermatology ward at St Thomas' to reflect their history as patients at St Thomas' and, prior to the move there, at the St John's Hospital and Institute of Dermatology which was founded in 1868.
Originally this work was to be used on specially commissioned curtains but in view of increasing infection control requirements it was decided to ask the artist to make a series of pieces which could be hung in the ward corridors. The various artworks now illustrate both the history of St Thomas' and the reflections of patients with chronic skin conditions.
