To celebrate the achievements of London's NHS staff The King's Fund have teamed up with the Evening Standard to launch the first annual NHS Champions Awards. Patients and staff have been invited to put forward nominees using nomination forms available every Monday and Tuesday in the Evening Standard until the closing date of 25 November.
This year of the award categories are for nurses, midwives, doctors, health care assistants, ambulance crew and, in a special team award, GP practice/primary care centres. Other groups will be represented in subsequent years to ensure recognition for all London's NHS staff.
A high profile judging panel, chaired by The King's Fund Chief Executive Rabbi Julia Neuberger and Evening Standard Editor Veronica Wadley, which also includes Nigella Lawson, Gary Lineker, Professor Sir Ara Darzi and Christine Hancock, will decide the final selection of winners and present them with their awards at the Savoy Hotel in January 2004.
