Board papers published last week by the NHS Trust Development Authority show an aggregate deficit among NHS trusts of £376 million for the six months up to the end of September. This is an increase from £300 million in the first quarter of the year. Monitor’s report on foundation trusts, published ahead of its board meeting on 26 November, reveals a deficit of £254 million for the same period, up from £167 million in the first quarter.
