Would you like to understand what organisational development (OD) is and how it can help you unlock your organisation’s potential?
This introductory course explores the basics of OD, using the metaphor of houses and homes to help you understand and connect with essential OD concepts in an accessible way. The course covers the basics of OD theory and practice, before exploring some of the dynamics of organisational life that often make change and improvement so challenging.
Whether you are completely new to OD or just looking to refresh your knowledge and skills, this short course will help you become more confident using OD ideas and approaches.
Who is it for?
This course will be beneficial to:
anyone starting out in an OD role
those with a human resources background who find themselves in an OD-related role
leaders of smaller organisations in the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector who are the entirety of the OD function in their workplace
managers and leaders with an interest in OD change and improvement.

What will you achieve?
By the end of this course, you will:
understand what OD is, what it is for, and the different mindsets and approaches you can take to designing, developing and changing organisations
be able to apply basic OD ideas and approaches
recognise the importance of complexity, culture and power in organisational life.
Throughout the course participants are encouraged to keep a reflective personal journal to help them embed their learning, both during and upon completion of the programme.
How will you learn?
This is a free self-guided course, delivered via FutureLearn. Once you enrol, you will have three weeks to complete the course at your own pace. You will have the opportunity to meet other learners, share your ideas and join in with active discussions at every stage of your learning.
