Communities often have the closest connection to people’s lives. If services aim to improve the health and wellbeing of their local people, they must realise the power of community-led and person-centred approaches.
Communities and the places people live in profoundly shape how healthy and well they are, often having greater influence on health and wellbeing than health services. The impact of voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) groups on people’s health and wellbeing have been brought into sharp focus by their ongoing role in responses to the cost-of-living crisis and the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, when communities are not listened to by local services, community-based approaches are not funded properly, and groups of people are continually marginalised, it can lead to devastating consequences, such as the Grenfell tragedy. In a health and care system under pressure, if integrated care systems (ICSs) truly want to reduce health inequalities and improve the health and wellbeing of their local populations, they must invest in communities and develop better partnership-working between VCSE, NHS, and local authority organisations.
Join us at this event to learn about the power of community-led and person-centred approaches and understand how the health and care system can invest in, and work with, communities to improve people’s health and wellbeing.
Event topics
Sessions will explore:
the strengths of community-led and person-centred approaches in improving people’s health and wellbeing
lessons learnt from the Grenfell tragedy and how services and the wider system must build trust and engage meaningfully with the communities they serve
why funding and investing in VCSEs and communities need to be improved so that communities are better able to meet the needs of people
how integrated care systems (ICSs) can ensure working with communities is embedded at system level and delivered at place level through close partnership-working
how social prescribing can help tackle health inequalities at the local level and how to increase its reach
how communities and VCSEs can utilise their social and community assets to drive sustainable community-led activity.
