Bertie's Book Group: May 2020 (Online video chat)

This content relates to the following topics:

2020 has been designated the International year of the nurse and midwife, it is also the Bicentennial of Florence Nightingale who was born on 12 May 1820 ( which is now International Nurses day).

To mark this important date, this month we will be discussing Emma Donoghue’s novel, The Wonder. This book follows an English nurse, Lib Wright (who was trained by Florence Nightingale) a tiny village in Ireland where she is to observe ‘the wonder’ - a girl said to have survived without food for months. Lib was trained by Florence Nightingale herself and in the novel often refers to Nightingale's Notes on nursing, so it feels apt to discuss nursing and Nightingale in this month's book group. We look forward to discussing this book with you during our online event.
