Looking back at 2024
The King’s Fund 2024 annual conference brought together leaders from across the health and care system to explore the challenges the system is facing and what change is needed. We were delighted to welcome the Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, who spoke to us about the findings of the Darzi review and outlined how his government plans to respond the stark challenges facing the sector.
Conference sessions explored where we find hope amid uncertainty in the work being done by those in the health and care system and its partners, including local authorities and the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector. Discussions provided an opportunity to look at what it means to develop meaningful partnerships and engage communities, how organisations are taking a fresh approach to supporting staff wellbeing, how to support anti-racist concepts in the workplace, and what tackling the worst health outcomes looks like in practice.
Following the recent general election, further sessions provided an opportunity to consider what meaningful change looks and feels like, and how to make a difference, both to those working in health and care services and the people who rely on them. Whether this is through the use of innovative technology and life sciences, through focusing more on prevention, moving care closer to home, or by developing a health and social care workforce that is equipped to meet the challenges of the future.
