What can I expect?
Hosted by Dr Simon Newitt and guest contributors offering specific OD insights in complexity, each session will offer a balance of context-relevant insight and frameworks alongside live case studies that ensure real-world relevance and application. Peer-based group discussion will support you to reflect and identify the on-the-ground action you can take.
Workshop 1
Thinking clearly in complexity
25 February 2021 | 09.30am – 12.30pm
Facilitated by Dr Simon Newitt and Dr Kiran Chauhan
In this session we will explore ways to identify complexity in our work and how clear thinking can be hijacked by the psychological and emotional impact of complexity. We will share methods and approaches for surfacing and categorising tensions, challenges and problems in our work and professional relationships. And using live examples we will identify some strategies and approaches to help you thoughtfully frame and negotiate complex challenges.
Workshop 2
Acting wisely in complexity
23 March 2021 | 09.30am – 12.30pm
Facilitated by Dr Simon Newitt and Sally Hulks
This workshop will explore the features of a complex environment and focus on how to ensure that our actions in these contexts are informed, intentional and appropriate. We will share models to prompt reflection and discussion on what influences behaviours that help and hinder wise action, and we will consider the forces that get in the way and how to temper them. Live examples will illustrate how a balance of enquiry, advocacy and planning is needed to leverage the insight needed to act wisely in complexity.
Workshop 3
Staying healthy in complexity
27 April 2021 | 09.30am – 12.30pm
Facilitated by Dr Simon Newitt and Cindy Cox
Chaotic workplaces, relentless and competing demands, shifting priorities and excessive workloads lead to people feeling overwhelmed and experiencing burnout. This workshop will consider the specific stresses and strains that today’s complex operational and strategic environment places on us and others. We will consider how complexity and uncertainty raise anxiety, trigger ‘unhelpful’ behaviours, and impact trust, focus and overall wellbeing. Finally, we will work together to develop our understanding of those practical actions that will build resilience, trust, and a climate of performance and support.
