Supporting leaders to implement STPs and place-based plans

This content relates to the following topics:

If you are part of an STP leadership team or a leader working with others to implement place-based plans, we can support you.

Our approach is informed by our deep understanding of the health and care system, including our high-profile research into STPs, as well as our organisational development (OD) expertise in the relational and cultural aspects of managing change.

We have direct experience of supporting the development of place-based plans and are currently working with a number of STP leaders and teams around the country. Our experience and expertise includes:

  • supporting leaders to address the challenges of leading change across systems of care
  • building understanding and trust among wide groups of stakeholders and facilitating difficult conversations
  • working through new governance and accountability arrangements
  • exploring new organisational forms (eg, accountable care organisations) and different types of contracts
  • applying national policy in a local context
  • sharing experience from the UK and abroad
  • working collaboratively with patients and the public and actively engaging with the voluntary sector and communities.

We will work alongside you to help surface issues through conversations and observations of your team in action. We will then design interventions to solve emerging problems and help deliver the change you want to see. We use a range of approaches including coaching, mentoring, facilitating small groups and running events for larger groups of people. In doing so, we draw on a range of expertise within The King’s Fund from both our Policy and OD teams.

For an informal conversation about how we can support you and your leadership team, please contact Nicola Walsh, Assistant Director, Leadership and Organisational Development, on 020 7307 2650 or
