We spoke to Juliet Mountford, Director of UK Service Development at the British Red Cross at a stakeholder event for the Commission on the Future of Health and Social Care in England. She emphasised the importance of a person-centred approach to health and social care in the future, removing the barriers between commissioners, providers and the voluntary sector to provide high-quality care for service users.
In order to achieve this, we may need to recast current funding options, and the voluntary sector will need to get better at integration and working in partnership. The voluntary sector, and most importantly its local volunteers, could also help to provide the compassionate care needed to improve health and social care.
