Tessa Jelen is the chair of Breathe Easy Westminster, a community support group for people with respiratory conditions. After retiring from a charity that sent volunteers overseas and after a diagnosis of emphysema, community support for people with respiratory conditions became Tessa’s main priority. Breathe Easy Westminster supports more than 180 members and provides regular meetings and newsletters. Its Singing to Breathe group, encouraged by Christchurch's Sidney de Haan projects for arts and health, is going well.
Tessa also actively takes part in more than 14 patient involvement committees, including Healthwatch and the Central London Community Healthcare user panel, and is a member of CLAHRC and the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre patient and public panel, where she represents the need for respiratory support.
