Irene has worked on organisation-wide development initiatives, supporting senior teams, health boards and social care organisations through major change including reconfiguration and merger.
Irene is passionate about health and social care provision and about the development of staff and leaders across professions. She has designed and led various leadership programmes, and was responsible for the Professional Leadership Development Programme in health and social care within Northern Ireland in 2008. Irene recently led on the design and delivery of a programme for chief officers in the third sector (Dare to Lead).
Irene began work in the NHS in 1981, working in finance, general management and people development. After several years with the NHS Training Directorate in Bristol she returned to Northern Ireland and joined the Beeches Management Centre.
Irene spent three years as Executive Director of Human Resources with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, and two years as an independent management consultant prior to rejoining the Beeches as Chief Executive from 2003-2008. Irene also served as a trustee and Board Secretary of Action Cancer for five years. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, and has a Masters in Business Administration, with Distinction. Irene was awarded a Companionship by the Institute of Healthcare Management in 2009.
In January 2009, she established her own practice as an independent leadership and organisation development consultant working with a wide variety of organisations. As a senior consultant with The King's Fund, she is currently engaged in working with emerging clinical commissioning groups, supporting their journey towards authorisation through effective board and individual development.
