About Time To Think Differently

It is time to think differently about health and social care. Although good progress has been made in improving NHS performance in the past decade, the health and social care system faces unprecedented funding pressures and significant future challenges. Fundamental change is needed to respond to the needs of an ageing population, the changing burden of disease and rising patient expectations.

Time to Think Differently is a new programme of work from The King's Fund aimed at stimulating debate about the changes needed for the NHS and social care to meet the challenges of the future. By engaging others and promoting discussion, we hope to generate new thinking about innovative ways of delivering high-quality care and support health and social care leaders in their decision-making.

This website is the focus of this debate. It will feature:

  • Regular blogs from guest contributors which we hope will spark debate by providing interesting and challenging perspectives on a range of different issues.
  • A comprehensive analysis of the trends driving change in health and social care - we hope this will be a valuable resource to support policy-makers and health and social care leaders in thinking about how services need to change.
  • Video and other content capturing the views of politicians, people working in health and social care and members of the public.
  • Publications presenting our latest thinking. We set out the case for change in Transforming the delivery of health and social care, which we published in September 2012. Other publications looking at future funding requirements and setting out our ideas about how the delivery of health and social care needs to change will follow during the course of the programme.

We will respond to the discussion generated and use it to inform our thinking about how the delivery of health and social care needs to change - we will publish our ideas about this in 2013.
