Summary

Race equality in mental health services is prominent at national policy level. But at the local level, black and minority ethnic (BME) communities are still receiving unequal treatment in some aspects of care. This paper looks at what has changed for BME communities since the previous mental health inquiry from The King's Fund in 1997. It reflects on the current situation and discusses implications for the future, looking particularly at issues for women, refugees and asylum seekers. It is one of a series of papers produced as part of The King's Fund Mental Health Inquiry.
