The protection enjoyed by the health budget in the last spending review may have been the envy of other spending departments, but in the context of rising costs and demand, and the need to improve service quality, the NHS is feeling the pain. And staff will have to find these efficiencies while also coping with one of the biggest structural reorganisations in the service’s history. No mean feat.
