Evidence submission: Health Select Committee's inquiry into public expenditure

Our response to the House of Commons Health Committee's inquiry into public expenditure on health and care services.

The submission evaluated progress in meeting the so-called Nicholson Challenge and assessed the impact of wider financial pressures in health and care.

It found that, while financial progress across the NHS was holding up well, a small but significant number of NHS trusts was in real difficulty. We also highlighted that too great an emphasis had been placed on delivering financial savings rather than genuine productivity gains, and a lack of urgency in developing integrated care.
