Big Society: Political philosophy and implications for health policy
David Cameron first set out his vision for a 'Big Society' in his Hugo Young lecture on 10 November 2009 outlining a new role for government: 'actively helping to create the big society; directly agitating for, catalysing and galvanising social renewal'.
This background paper – written to support a series of breakfast events hosted at The King's Fund – looks at the context surrounding the coalition government's plans and asks what issues the Big Society would raise for health care organisations.
