Day seven: Waste at Christmas and in the NHS

It is estimated that over the festive period, £600 million worth of food will be thrown away. Unfortunately, there is a significant amount of waste in the health and social care system due to medicine mismanagement, with estimates that show £300 million of medicine is wasted every year. This covers, £110 million worth of medicine returned to pharmacies, £90 million worth of unused prescriptions being stored in homes and £50 million worth of medicines disposed of by care homes.
