Aims and outcomes

Two linked projects were undertaken with the aim of providing activity and interest for people with dementia and their relatives while in the hospital.

A 'Memory Lane' has been created along the main corridor adjacent to the elderly care wards consisting of a group of large tile panels commissioned to depict aspects of the history of Coventry. The images were specially chosen to act as reference points and to evoke memories and prompt conversations as people walk along the corridor.

The Forget Me Not lounge, created from a space used previously for teaching, has been designed to provide a private, non-clinical space where visitors and patients can enjoy time together. The room has been decorated in a contemporary style using natural colours and soft furnishings. A sofa and comfortable chairs provide a choice of seating, while bespoke artworks and boxes of activities provide interest.

To link the corridor and lounge a large artwork, in two sections, was commissioned, and included memories from patients and staff.
