Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust
Location
The recreation hall at St Luke's Hospital, which provides adult mental health services
Aims and outcomes
The large recreation hall housed a number of pool tables, but the facility was poorly used by patients. The team wanted to update the hall, turning it into a light and airy multi-purpose area with access to adjacent courtyards.
A false ceiling was removed in order to expose the original Victorian beams and other original features were also retained. French windows were installed to give access to an outside area and a quiet area was created in one corner of the hall. Service users were involved in creating artworks for the courtyard areas and the entrance to the hall.
