The new room provides space for 'time out'
Light, music and colour create a calming environment

The Mulberry Bush Day Unit, an 18-place primary day school for severely disturbed children.

Aims and outcomes

The Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust team wanted to create a more dignified space for periods of 'time out'. The environment needed to stimulate the senses, using light, music and colour, and it was also important that the mood of the room could be adjusted to suit different children's needs. The space needed to be robust and secure while also being calming and supportive.
