South London and the Maudsley NHS Trust
Location
Cafe in the main reception area of the Ladywell Unit, serving three adult acute wards, an elderly care ward, a rehabilitation and psychiatric intensive care ward, and an adult admissions ward
Aims and outcomes
The project team wanted to create a pleasant cafe with access to an existing garden via a ramp down to ground level from the raised reception. The aim was to provide a space away from the wards for people to meet and socialise and to bring additional light into the reception area.
The new cafe is run by the Women's Royal Voluntary Service, and, together with the refurbished reception area, it provides a welcome respite for service users, visitors and staff. The interior design scheme is based around a Moroccan theme.
