The kitchen recreates a homely environment

Occupational therapy department at the Royal Marsden Hospital on Fulham Road

Aims and outcomes

The Royal Marsden team wanted to make better use of the space within the occupational therapy department.

A storage area was converted into a dedicated room for relaxation therapy. In this room, light, colour and sound are used to create a quiet, contemplative environment. Patients using the room can select different lighting effects during relaxation therapy.

In addition, the rehabilitation kitchen used by patients was upgraded to simulate a home environment more effectively, and new flooring and decor was installed in the entrance, treatment area and bathroom.
