Aims and outcomes

The aim of the Oasis project was to create an oasis for relatives where they could relax, rest and refresh themselves in the hope that many would be encouraged to stay for longer periods at the hospital which serves a very rural population.

Three on-call rooms have been transformed into a comfortable and welcoming area with kitchenette, shower facilities and a variety of seating options. Comfortable, relaxing chairs have been placed at the quieter end of the room so that people can stay overnight.

The main area has been imaginatively subdivided by a commissioned stained glass screen which provides an experience of privacy for those seated on the comfortable sofas, while not allowing people to feel alone. A butterfly features on the screen and provides a connecting theme throughout the room and adjoining small courtyard garden.
