Aims and Outcomes
A comment card from a bereaved mother provided the inspiration for the project at Newham where the viewing facilities in both the accident and emergency (A&E) department and in the main hospital have been extended and refurbished.
The same colour palette and signature image has been used to link both areas. In A&E the room previously used for viewings has been enlarged to provide a family room which can be closed off at one end to provide a private viewing area when required.
The main mortuary viewing area has been redesigned and now has a dedicated waiting area, which also provides a space for the local Registrar; a central viewing space which can be closed off by closing floor-to-ceiling room dividers; and an adjoining indoor garden where relatives can spend some private time.
