Aims and Outcomes
The initial aim was to improve the relatives' journey to the mortuary but the project expanded to encompass the redesign of the viewing facilities at Luton.
A new private entrance to the bereavement suite has been created and planting has been introduced to screen the main covered walkway from the adjoining café. A bespoke wooden door leads into a small, private garden with wooden benches and a water feature.
Internally the space has been reorganised to provide a good sized modern waiting room with hand washing facilities which overlooks the garden. The adjoining viewing area has been designed to provide a tranquil environment while an adjustable lighting system can be used during viewings when required.
