Location

An operating theatre suite at Great Ormond Street Hospital

Aims and outcomes

The project team aimed to make the experience of going into theatre and recovery less overwhelming and to reduce stress at both the start and end of the journey. The redesign built on the idea of 'going into the deep' that children described as their experience of anaesthesia.

Site-specific art was installed in the entrance and recovery rooms, and an integrated interior design scheme was developed throughout the suite. A computer-generated LED light installation is a major feature in the refurbished recovery room.
