Derbyshire Mental Health Services NHS Trust
Project location
Hartington Unit, Chesterfield Royal Hospital
Aims and Outcomes
The main aim of the project was to create a tranquil area for reflection while offering a degree of sensory stimulation that would help elderly service users relax, reflect and recover. In addition the team wanted to make better use of the available central space in the ward and to create a dedicated seating area for patients.
The nurses' station is now visable and together with the new adjustable lighting, new flooring, light blue walls and colourful, comfortable seating the ward has a welcome feel.
A quiet room has been created off the main corridor which provides a very peaceful space. A bespoke lighting scheme, including LEDs which gently change colour, a choice of music or video and comfortable furniture complete the room. Pictures of different landscapes have been hung in matching frames along the main corridor.
