Aims and outcomes
The Garden Room has been created to provide a private space for relatives and those receiving palliative care in the hospital. A new wooden clad structure with living roof and large windows has been located in a previously underused courtyard adjacent to the main lifts.
Entry to the room is controlled via a key pad and the opaque glass doors feature etchings of the scheme’s chosen signature image of a rose. The interconnecting space which links the new structure to the main building provides a small area where relatives can make a drink or keep in touch with families via internet access or a web cam.
A welcoming and comfortable seating area, designed to accommodate more than one family, has been furnished in a natural colour palette and designed so that the artworks can be changed to reflect the seasons. A glass panelled wall can be folded back to give full access to the surrounding garden.
