Project location

Hidcote Ward, Charlton Lane Centre, which provides mental health services in Cheltenham

Aims and outcomes

The team wanted to redesign the area outside Hidcote Ward to create a Japanese-style sensory garden for the Charlton Lane Centre. They also wanted to improve access to an existing quiet room by creating an additional entrance from the garden area.

Granite seating and lanterns, traditional water features and mature planting have created a harmonious and calm atmosphere in the garden. Large rocks and stone are used as focal points for the design, and staff and patients were involved in selecting these materials from a local quarry.
