The Barnet and Chase Farm team transformed a dark corridor into a calm and reassuring space for young patients on their way to theatre.

A safe, secure and peaceful place where people could spend some time alone no matter what time of day.

The team at Birmingham Children's Hospital redesigned the reception and waiting area in their accident and emergency department.

Organic shapes have been used throughout and the planting incorporates banks, rather than flat borders, to echo the curves in the hard landscaping.

Themes of earth, water and light were used to transform three courtyard gardens into therapeutic environments.

This project has improved the relatives' room in the emergency department and the rooms used for the registrar, bereavement and counselling services in the hospital.

A new ceiling installation uses colour, light, sound and movement to connect corridors between wards.
