Background and resources on Lord Darzi's NHS Next Stage Review
This page gives some background to Ara Darzi's review of the NHS, and provides links to a comprehensive list of resources offering more in-depth information on the review.
About Lord Darzi
Lord Darzi had already been tasked with evaluating health services in London in December 2006. His final report, A Framework for Action, published in July 2007, detailed how he believed London's health care needed to change over the next ten years.
Among its recommendations were that complex and specialist care be carried out in fewer hospitals and that GP practices could merge into larger 'polyclinics' that would serve a wider area and provide some outpatient services, including minor surgery, in addition to GP services.
